Call For Volunteers, Community over Code 2026
Community over Code is an event run by the community, for the community. That’s you!
The event is happening now (October 11–14, 2026)! Most of the pre-event volunteer work is behind us — thank you to everyone who pitched in. Here’s how you can still help, on-site and after the event.
Help Right Now — Spread the Word
If you’re at the conference (or following along), the easiest way to help is to post about what’s happening. We have ready-made social media posts you can copy, paste, and share — including live, happening-now posts for each day:
- Social Media Promotion page - Grab a post and share it! No signup required.
- Submit your photos to photos.apachecon.com - Help build the shared event album.
Volunteer Task Calendars
We have two calendars that tracked outreach tasks. The pre-event tasks are now closed, but the post-event follow-up tasks still need owners (thank-yous, recap posts, feedback surveys, collecting slides):
- Volunteer Outreach Calendar - Post-event follow-up tasks are open at the bottom of the page
- Hackathon Outreach Calendar - Hackathon post-event follow-up tasks
On-Site Roles
Hackathon Coordination
The hackathon runs all week. Help connect projects with contributors and make sure everyone has what they need to be productive.
- About hackathon coordination (general guide)
- Glasgow hackathon page (this year’s event)
Birds of a Feather (BoF) Sessions
Host or help organize an informal evening discussion on a topic you care about. BoFs run Monday and Tuesday, 5:50–6:30 PM — open slots remain.
- BoF schedule and signup — See what’s planned and claim a slot
Help Improve Our Glasgow Guides
Know Glasgow? Help us make these pages better for attendees:
- Vegetarian & Vegan Restaurants - Add your favourite spots
- Bars & Pubs - Recommend great places to socialize
- Tourist Highlights - Add hidden gems and local tips
How to Get Involved
- Join #community-over-code on the-asf.slack.com
- Join apachecon.slack.com for day-to-day event coordination
- Email planners@apachecon.com indicating your interest, and what you’d like to work on.
There are no specific requirements or qualifications for these jobs - just a passion for ASF community and a willingness to collaborate. We’re looking forward to working with you!
